Final Globalization Project
Project Directions

Essential Questions:
- What are the upsides and downsides of globalization?
- How do you find the right balance as an individual, NGO, corporation?
- Globalization is here; how do we, as global citizens, deal with it?
Directions:
- Choose a product/company operating in your region. Research the company’s production record from a labor, health and welfare, economic, environmental point of view.
- Your group will break into thirds. One third will represent the company you select. One third will represent the local voice that wants to encourage globalization. One third will represent the local voice that wants to discourage globalization.
- In order to answer the essential questions, you will need to:
- Draw from your reading of the core text set in your region and your study of current events
- Read about the economic and political issues facing the country.
- Research a company and its product or service, thinking about how this product/service affects the local and national economy, how it affects individuals and communities, and how it impacts the environment.
Products:
The Globalization Final Project (1302 classroom 14-18 June) will have the following main components:
- Write a policy paper (research required) from your specific angle, answering essential question one (1). Upload this to your country’s section of the watch edublog site.
- Prepare and deliver a detailed presentation with audio/visuals (posted to your watch edublog site) on essential questions one, two, and three (1,2,&3). This will be on your regional edublog.
- Listen to the perspectives and the evidence given in the other presentations. You will be required to make one thoughtful, constructive comment on the other groups’ watch edublog site.
- English Final Reflection Paper (see below)
Timeline:
- Friday, 17 May, combined, project presentation and discussion/questions
- Friday, 24 May, combined, project product and edublog discussion/questions
- Friday, 31 May, assemble country portfolio, post on edublog
- Monday – Friday, 3-7 June, homework; research globalization project
- Monday – Thursday, 10-13 June, project prep, computer labs
- Friday, 14 June, Americas and Oceania group presentation
- Monday, 17 June, Europe and Asia group presentations
- Tueday, 18 June, Middle East/North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa group presentations
- Wednesday, 19 June, Final Reflection written English Final Exam period
- Wednesday, 26 June, final day of classes, grades and work returned.
